Callistus K.P.O. Ogol

Prof. Callistus Ogol is an accomplished scholar, research manager, and educationist. He holds a PhD in Entomology (University of Alberta, Canada), a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Entomology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Science) (University of Nairobi, Kenya). He is a senior education expert and focal officer of the Pan African University, and coordinator of the Pan African Virtual and E-University at the African Union where he is responsible for drafting policy papers, development and monitoring of institutional links, resource mobilization, implementation of AU summit resolutions, coordinating planning and development of academic programs and University’s policies on equal opportunities, among others.

He previously served as an Associate Professor at the Department of Zoological Sciences, and Director of the Institute for Research Science and Technology (IRST) at Kenyatta University. At IRST he coordinated generation and dissemination of research-based knowledge, fostered research linkages and partnerships, and developed networks for dialogue and collaboration with policy makers, industry and definitive research recipient communities. He also facilitated registration of patents and copyrights and ethical reviews. His research experience includes behavioural and prevalence research on HIV, food security, biodiversity and natural resource utilization. He has also served as a member of the National Advisory Panel to the Regional Network for AIDS, Food and Nutrition Security and Livelihoods (RENEWAL), a project of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and a coordinator for the Association of African Universities (AAU) and East African Sub-Regional Network (EASRN) of Tertiary Institutions Against HIV Pandemic. He has published several peer-reviewed papers, written and managed research grants from Rockefeller foundation, African Academy of Sciences, Earth watch, and Canadian International Development Agency. Prof. Ogol brings to the organisation a wealth of experience in strategic planning and management, fundraising, research and capacity building.
